Foreign marriage

DOCUMENTATION CONDITIONS MARRIAGE CONTRACTS OF FOREIGNERS

Firstly: Egyptian Wife and Foreign Husband (General)

For the Egyptian Wife:

1. Valid National ID card.
2. Five recent passport-sized photographs.
3. Medical examination certificate (from any health office with a family health system).
4. If divorced:
- Original divorce certificate or final divorce ruling and a recent certificate confirming no appeal has been filed.
5. If widowed:
Original death certificate of the deceased husband.
6. Birth certificate copy of the wife.

Secondly: For the Foreign Husband:

1. The foreigner must be present in person - no proxies allowed.
2. Valid passport and valid residency.
3. Five recent passport-sized photographs.
4. Medical examination certificate (from any health office with a family health system).
5. A certificate from the consulate or embassy including:
- Full name, religion, nationality, date and place of birth, detailed address, occupation, income, marital status (whether previously married, number of wives, and children), or indicating if divorced or widowed, and confirming that there are no legal objections to the marriage.
If the husband is widowed, the original death certificate of the deceased wife must be provided, authenticated by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If the certificate is issued by a non-Arabic speaking country, both the original and its translation must be authenticated by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If the husband has converted to Islam, the original certificate of conversion from Al-Azhar must be provided.
If any or all of the above-mentioned documents for the foreign husband are unavailable, he must visit the Foreign Marriage Exceptions Office at 57 Ramses Street, Cairo.

General Conditions:

1. Two witnesses above 21 years old (with valid National ID cards).
2. The age difference between the couple must not exceed 25 years.
3. A translator (listed as a translator on their ID card or holding a higher qualification in translation).
4. If the couple was previously married under an unofficial or customary marriage, the original customary marriage contract must be provided.
5. If the wife is Christian, a certificate of no impediments from her church, authenticated by the Security Directorate and addressed to the Real Estate Registry, must be provided.
6. There are some differences for certain nationalities.

Egyptian Husband and Foreign Wife (General)

For the Egyptian Husband:

1. A valid and recent National ID card (passport is not accepted).
2. Five recent passport-sized photographs.
3. Medical examination certificate for marriage from any health office.
4. If married:
- Marriage certificate.
- Detailed address of the first wife or her presence to sign in acknowledgment, along with her phone number and postal code if residing abroad.
5. If divorced:
- A photocopy of the divorce certificate or final divorce ruling.
6. If widowed:
- A photocopy of the death certificate of the deceased wife.
7. Military status and the family registration certificate (for the Egyptian husband).

For the Foreign Wife:

1. Valid passport and valid residency.
2. Five recent passport-sized photographs.
3. Medical examination certificate for marriage from any health office with a family health system.
4. A certificate from the consulate or embassy including:
- Full name, religion, nationality, date and place of birth, detailed address, and marital status (indicating whether never married, divorced, or widowed, with dates), and confirming that there are no legal objections to the marriage.
If the wife is widowed, the original death certificate of the deceased husband must be provided, authenticated by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
